{"id":2840,"date":"2010-06-26T04:51:27","date_gmt":"2010-06-26T03:51:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/etbscreenwriting.com\/\/?p=2840"},"modified":"2010-06-26T04:51:27","modified_gmt":"2010-06-26T03:51:27","slug":"jumping-off-a-cliff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/etbscreenwriting.com\/jumping-off-a-cliff\/","title":{"rendered":"Jumping Off a Cliff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/etbscreenwriting.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/40620-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2842 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 104px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 104\/135;margin: 5px;\" title=\"40620-1\" data-src=\"http:\/\/etbscreenwriting.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/40620-1.jpg\" alt=\"40620-1\" width=\"104\" height=\"135\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" \/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-2842\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" title=\"40620-1\" src=\"http:\/\/etbscreenwriting.com\/\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/40620-1.jpg\" alt=\"40620-1\" width=\"104\" height=\"135\" \/><\/noscript><\/a>While I was in Madrid&#8211; sitting in the beautiful plazas&#8211; I read the most recent <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mydigitalpublication.com\/publication\/?i=40620\">WGA Magazine WRITTEN BY<\/a>. \u00a0There was a wonderful article about Ray Bradbury who was interviewed on his 90th Birthday. \u00a0He repeated one of his most famous quotes: \u00a0&#8220;You&#8217;ve got to jump off the cliff all the time and build your wings on the way down.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Anyone who has heard me speak or who has read the articles on this site know I am always talking about characters taking a Leap of Faith in a story. \u00a0I have been a bit hesitant about making my own.<\/p>\n<p>The cliff I am contemplating right now is moving to Europe to live and work for a year, possibly longer. \u00a0Serendipity has put several people in my path who have done just that&#8211; \u00a0They moved to a foreign country without a lot of pre-arranged work and they just made it happen. \u00a0They built their wings after taking a big leap of faith. \u00a0Each person said &#8220;just do it.&#8221; \u00a0And that is what I am going to do. \u00a0I will follow their inspiration.<\/p>\n<p>Contrary to most of the stuff I post on this site&#8211; about writing and character or story analysis&#8211; I am going to start posting about this big leap off the cliff and the grand experiment of building my wings. \u00a0This is a formal declaration rather than the tentative &#8220;feelers&#8221; \u00a0I&#8217;ve been cautiously putting out. \u00a0It&#8217;s an exciting and scary time for me. \u00a0I will keep you posted!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am always talking about characters taking a Leap of Faith in a story.
