Then they come home to a feeling of dislocation, severe disability (amputation of both legs), addiction and barely suppressed anger. \u00a0The film does deal with PTSD and maybe was shocking and revelatory for the time. \u00a0But it just doesn&#8217;t hold up after 30+ years.<\/p>\n<p>Strong performances by a very young Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken and Meryl Streep\u00a0are not enough to salvage the film. \u00a0To tell you the truth I didn&#8217;t want to waste my time viewing it to the end. \u00a0But I did.<\/p>\n<p>What I took from the film is an appreciation of how beautiful Meryl Streep is and how genuine and natural she is in the small town girl role.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Deer Hunter doesn&#8217;t hold up after 20+ years.
